Program Services Provided

UNOW serves children ages 3 months to 5 years old with full day child care, catering to the development needs and interests of each child. Family involvement is welcome and encouraged but not required for children to attend UNOW.  Family events and program participation is available on a volunteer basis.

Full-day

UNOW is designed for children attending a full day.  Children typically arrive between 8:00 am and 9:30 am each morning.  During the day there are a variety of activities attending to each child’s developmental needs and interests.  Full-day, care needs are provided such as morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack. Each child is offered at least one hour of rest or nap period each day depending on the needs and ages of the children. Attached to the exterior of the building are three separate age appropriate playgrounds, infant, toddler and preschool playgrounds. They go outside at least twice per day as weather permits. Generally parents pick up their child between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Full-week, Monday through Friday

Each child attends the same classroom a full week, Monday through Friday, throughout the program session.  Children who spend their days with the same group of children from day to day form special bonds with both their teachers and their peer groups.  Emphasis is placed on building community within classrooms and throughout the program.

Program Sessions Offered

Families have the option of signing up for one of three program options each year.

  1. Full Year — full-day, full-week (M-F) child care over a 12 month period from September 1 through August 31st of the following year.  There is a discounted rate for full year sessions.

  2. Academic Year — full-day, full-week (M-F) child care over a period from September and into June of the following year.

  3. Extended Academic — allows families to extend the care for their child beyond the academic year into the Summer Session.  Families may choose to extend with either the first half of the Summer Session (Summer Session I) or the second half of the Summer Session (Summer Session II).  Families may also choose to extend the academic contract through the full Summer Session of 8 weeks. Selection of any of the Extended Academic options does not include the full year contract discount.

Summer Sessions are a continuation of our academic program year and usually lasts over an 8 week period from July to mid-August of each year.  Summer session activities and care are the same as any other part of the year except children spend an extended time in the outdoor play areas and activities are geared toward summer interests and outdoor exploration. Occasionally, UNOW enrolls older preschool age children for the summer session only if there are openings available.
